It is hard to believe that a year has passed since we received the devastating phone call to inform us that Keith Phillips, a wonderful husband, amazing father, devoted son, and a vital part of the Fueled By The Fallen family was killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident. Although everyday is a day of remembrance of those who have left this earth before us, December 17th is an especially important day for us at FBTF, to pay tribute and [...]
“Inscribed onto these cars are those that fell on that particular day,” Kevyn Major Howard, founder of the “Fueled by the Fallen” organization, said.

Clarksville, TN – The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally Southern Excursion made their scheduled stop in Clarksville, Tennessee, Thursday afternoon, and left out early on Friday morning on the final leg of their 2500 mile journey. The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally began on September 24th on Florida’s Space Coast and concludes today in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Anniston was the site of a special scavenger hunt Friday.
Thirty-five teams set out through the city to find things such as the Freedom Riders Trailways Bus Mural, the Alabama shaped pool at Centennial Memorial Park, the Ty Cobb Memorial, the mummy at the museum and the giant office chair on Noble Street. Their assignment — to snap a picture at each site.
It was all part of the Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally. Similar to The Amazing Race, the Fireball Run is a trip across the South — 2,500 miles and 15 cities in eight days — with a mission.

ONTARIO – Kevyn Major Howard is on a journey. He wants to remind Americans of the achievements and sacrifices made by military and public safety personnel since the Sept. 11 attacks.
Howard is accomplishing that through a series of police cruisers, known as the “Angels Cars,” that are inscribed with the names of fallen firefighters, police officers and military personnel from 9/11.
On Thursday, Howard brought his mission to Ontario when two of the vehicles from the series – Pentagon and First Responders – were on display in front of the Ontario Rotary Police Museum.
“It was my wakeup call to America,” Howard said.
His inspiration for the vehicle came from personal experience, he explains.

The 9/11 “Angel Cruiser Series” proudly displays the names of all Heroes that lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Hi Kevyn,
I spoke with you yesterday at Daytona about my friend Charlie. Here is his story.

Charlie (Calixio) Anaya grew up together in Queens. After High School. Charlie was looking for a good, stable job. He knew my father worked for UPS and asked me if he could use my Dad as a reference. My Dad put in a good word for him and he got hired in UPS. Charlie was so excited that he was working for UPS,he loved it. Charlie was also a Marine, he bled red, white and blue. You always knew when Charlie was around, there was always an
American Flag hanging. Charlie and I worked in the same bar together on Saturdays for awhile. We reconnected after going on separate paths in our lives. But the one thing Charlie always said to me every time I saw him. Please tell your Dad I said Thank You for helping him get into UPS, this was even after he had been there for years! Charlie loved his job, he was very dedicated and proud to work for UPS! When Charlie’s name came up to enter the Fire academy, He came to see me to let me know, but most importantly, he wanted to make sure my dad would not be upset with him, that he left UPS to join the Fire Department. I told him that he wouldn’t be upset and to go kick butt.
I moved out of NY in May 2011, Charlie graduated the academy that summer.
I got a phone call on September 12, 2001 that Charlie had his very first call as a fire fighter, it was the Twin Towers. He went in and never came out! He was a son, a brother, an awesome father, a Marine, UPS employee and a dedicated friend that I will not let anyone forget!
CONCORD, N.C. (March 20, 2009) – A pair of nitro-burning NHRA Funny Cars dedicated to the memory of U.S. military personnel killed in service of their country during the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts will be displayed during the April 2-5 Food Lion AutoFair at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
War memorials take many forms. The Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., are two examples that remind millions of visitors each year that their freedom comes at a very high price. Traditionally, years pass after the end of fighting before such monuments are constructed – the memorial wall listing dead and missing Vietnam soldiers did not open until 1982 – but Kevyn Major Howard wanted to remind the public of the sacrifices military personnel are making right now.

GULFPORT — Five 9/11 Angel Cars that honor the victims and first responders of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will make an unscheduled stop at Cruise Central today from about 1-4 p.m. and then lead the antique car parade in Long Beach, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
“This is very special,” said Woody Bailey, director of Cruisin’ the Coast. He said the cars participated in the Fireball Run, a road race that ended in Gulfport on Saturday. Transportation problems have them staying in South Mississippi beyond what the expected time — a gain for Cruisin’ the Coast.
The pearl white Camaros debuted on the front lawn of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and also made stops at the Pentagon and Walter Reed Medical Center and Arlington National Cemetery. The cars were part of the 9/11 ceremony in New York before setting off on a cross-country tour.
One car honors the first responders at Ground Zero, two represent the twin Trade Towers, another commemorates those lost at the Pentagon and the fifth Angel Car honors the flight victims lost on board each of the four flights. In recognition, each Angel Cruiser lists the names of every victim lost on that day.

Repost from Rachel H. Goldman: here
A patriotic trio made a pit stop last Wednesday at the Kennebunkport home of former President George H.W. Bush.
An American flag-painted Jeep led two 9/11 Angel Cars, each with thousands of hand painted names of Sept. 11 victims, through Kennebunkport to the Bush compound at Walker’s Point during the Maine-leg of the caravan’s journey across country.
The caravan is part of a memorial tour, Crossing of America, presented by Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and Spirit of Liberty Foundation. The ride began on Memorial Day as the fleet departed from the deck of the USS Midway in San Diego.
Ninety-seven days and more than 18,000 miles later, the cars arrived in Maine with less than two weeks to go before concluding their trip at Sept. 11 10th anniversary commemoration ceremonies in New York City.
The tour has passed through 44 states and met with hundreds of families of soldiers who were wounded or killed while serving.
“The emotional part of this whole thing has been the number of families of fallen heroes and wounded warriors that we have seen,” said Crossing of America Founder Richard Rovsek.
Rovsek last year dreamed up the cross-country trek to support soldiers and their families.
Rovsek before the trip began e-mailed Gold Star Families, families with members who have died serving in the military.
“We had lists and we must have sent out thousands of e-mails and they responded in such large numbers,” he said.
David Ojena, a 21-year-old San Diego State college student working for Crossing of America, said the emotional journey has been far more tiring than the physical one.
“We’ve met a lot of families and some of them have lost someone less than 60 days ago,” he said. “That’s the emotional part, it’s the hardest part. The drive time is nothing. The long days are nothing. Meeting with parents and widows and talking about the loss of a loved one is by far the toughest part. But it’s also the most meaningful part at the same time.”
Spirit of Liberty Foundation last spring bought two Jeeps and had award-winning airbrush artist Kiwi Terry spray paint them in honor of the American flag.
Kevyn Major Howard, founder of the nonprofit Fueled by the Fallen, a memorial race car honor tour that supports military members and public safety personnel, joined the tour.
Howard added five 9/11 Angel Cars to The Crossing of America fleet: two represent those killed in the Twin Towers, another represents those killed at the Pentagon, a fourth commemorate first responders killed at the scene and the fifth represents all passengers killed on the three hijacked flights.

The Angel Cars next stop was Walter Reed Army Medical Center where we enjoyed a stirring visit with the staff and patients at that historic facility. The recently-decommissioned Walter Reed Army Medical Center was officially closing the next day. The Staff of Fueled by the Fallen had the honor of attending the last event hosted in the over- 100 year history of this famous medical center

From KT: “I just wanted to share that I saw Angel 1 and 4 on I-95 S when I was traveling from Maine to NH. When I saw them, I was just hit in the chest with how beautiful they are and how important they are. Thank you for sharing them on the roads and not hiding them on a truck. I would love to see them if you are ever touring in S. NH. Safe travels.”
