IN HONOR OF VETERAN’S DAY- November 11, 2011 (11/11/11)

West Coast Veterans Network members used the Veteran’s Day holiday as an opportunity to showcase a special collection of military and war-related memorabilia from Universal Studios dating back to World War I. Thanks to the team at NBCUniversal Archives & Collections, the memorabilia was at the center of a week-long tribute to our troops that took place outside the Universal Studios commissary in Los Angeles. A war memorial that stood on the Universal lot for many years had a lot of veterans and long-time Universal employees talking. The studio’s archivists recently uncovered and refurbished the memorial, which highlighted the names of Universal employees who fought in World War I, World War II and the Korean conflict. Also featured were a number of classic photographs from military-related Universal events, as well as a uniform display from one of Bob Hope’s USO tours. And the Veterans Network showed a video that included Universal newsreels, current PSA’s and pictures from West Coast Veterans Network events throughout the year. For a look at a portion of the video, please click here: West Coast Veterans Day Video. In addition to the memorabilia, the West Coast team also invited a handful of local military-focused charities to join them on Veteran’s Day, including representatives from Operation Gratitude, Vet Hunters, Wounded Warriors and Fueled by the Fallen. The team from Fueled by the Fallen brought with them two special cars that commemorate 9-11, both emblazoned with the names of those who lost their lives 10 years ago.

Although everyday is a day of remembrance of those who have left this earth before us, December 17th is an especially important day for us at FBTF, to pay tribute and [...]
